As much as I love the rentrée for its fresh-start feel—plus getting to to catch up with friends after the long summer hols—it can be a bit overwhelming. With inboxes overflowing, back-to-school schedules and overdue obligations, we hit the ground running at breakneck speed.
I’m finally starting to catch up with the rentrée. Hopefully, you are, too, because I have the perfect October
reward for all of that hard work in September. You busy LOLOS deserve a Buffalo Soldier Old Fashioned at Maria Loca.
With its laid-back attitude, this off-the-beaten track Bastille bar is the ideal spot for a break. A warm, rich Old Fashioned is the perfect cocktail for contemplating the coming cooler months.
Bonus: Maria Loca is taking part in international Old Fashioned Week. That means special prices on this cocktail with all proceeds going to the Isla Foundation, an NGO that works towards improved living and working conditions for cane-cutters in the sugar industry.
And if you’re still not out from under the rentrée avalanche, we’ve got a recipe below so you can take a break at home.
Ingredients
- 50ml HSE Black Sheriff rhum agricole
- 1 small teaspoon of Tobacco and Yerba Mate Syrup
- 2 Dashes of Angostura Bitters infused with cocoa beans
- 1 Dash of Tobacco bitters
Instructions
- Pour all the ingredients into a Old Fashioned Glass
- Drop in 3-4 ice cubes
- Stir it up to get some dilution
- Drop in 2-3 ice cubes to finish the glass
- Stir it again and serve
Address
31 Boulevard Henri IV, 75004
LES LOLOS Tip: You’re just back in the swing of things so don’t sweat the small stuff. Leave the complicated syrup infusions to the pros and make this at home with regular simple syrup and Angostura bitters. We promise you’ll enjoy it more if you don’t have to stress over every ingredient.
