The 5 Things Every Parisian Packs For Summer Vacation

We are so excited to introduce our new Fashion Editor, Caroline Laniel. A Parisian who’s also lived the expat experience, Caroline is a stylist, shopper and has even modeled in Japan. She lends us her expertise with a primer on packing for your summer holidays like a real Frenchwoman. Don’t leave home without these 5 things…

Les vacances! Soon, most of us will escape the city to reach distant lands. To make your packing mission easier, here’s my guide to the 5 essentials every stylish Parisian has in her summer luggage:

#1: A Multipurpose Tunic

Call it a dress, a blouse or a tunic: Something versatile enough to be worn on different occasions like a walk along the beachexploring a Medieval village in Provence, sipping a Spritz in Portofino.

LES LOLOS tip: Favor natural fabrics such as cotton. Polyester is a good alternative since it doesn’t wrinkle much.

#2: The Shoes

The Parisian girl is active and on average packs three pairs of shoes for her holiday:

LES LOLOS tip: All three pairs should match your tunic!

#3: The Swimsuit

This season is all about the one-piece. Pick one that’s graphic, sporty or elegant with a sexy lace-up.

LES LOLOS tip: Avoid strange tan lines by first sunbathing in a bikini or something strapless (or even better, try a self-tanner like L’Oréal Paris Sérum Autobronzant).

# 4: The Panier

That is, a woven raffia tote. Vanessa Seward’s handpainted woven totes are the fashionista’s choice (and mostly sold out)! Luckily, Maud Fourier offers a wide and beautiful selection as well.

LES LOLOS tip: Treasure hunt in your mom’s or (even better) grandma’s attic. You might score a vintage and completely unique basket to call your own.

#5: The Hat

Last but not least, an easy-to-fold or an easy-to-carry-on hat. Choose one with wide edges to keep your face protected from the sun.

LES LOLOS tip: If you have no more room left in your luggage for your topper, just wear it!
